The young man on the left in the photo is Bram Waterman (1887–1971). Next to him are his mother Jans and his two younger brothers. Bram’s father, Simon, was a lighthouse keeper at the IJzeren Torentje from 1886 to 1930. Bram followed in his father’s footsteps and also became a lighthouse keeper. In addition to a daughter, Bram also had a son, Willem, who in turn served as a lighthouse keeper for many years.

In the lighthouse ’t Hoge Licht, you can “meet” Bram — a replica of him has been created there.

The ’t Lage Licht lighthouse, painted by a resident of Westkapelle, W. Louws, in June 1975. This is the first lighthouse keeper’s house of the Lage Licht. This keeper’s accommodation, built in the shape of a ship’s bridge, was added to the tower in 1895 and demolished in 1919. After that, it served for many years somewhere in Westkapelle as a small shed.

Here the tower is illuminated in green by special lighting during the Lightrun from Domburg to Zoutelande in 2018. This Lightrun is part of the annual Zeeland Coastal Marathon from Burgh-Haamstede to Zoutelande. After approximately 37 kilometres, participants pass the ’t Lage Licht lighthouse.
