In the lighthouse of Westkapelle, there is a beautiful exhibition by Middelburg photographer Ruden Riemens, dedicated to the cultural highlights of Westkapelle: the fair, gaaischieten (shooting at a wooden bird), ring riding, and sjeesjesrijden (riding traditional carriages)!
For many residents of Westkapelle, the fair is the highlight of the year, and they look forward to this traditional event long in advance — an event that dates back to the Middle Ages.

During the fair, gaaischieten also takes place, which likely also originated in the Middle Ages. Ring riding and sjeesjesrijden are of a later date. Together, these rituals form the unique culture of Westkapelle.
