Lighthouse 't Lage Licht is temporarily closed to the public. Rijkswaterstaat (the executive agency of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management) discovered cracks in the floors during a regular inspection. Rijkswaterstaat will now investigate this first.

Further research is needed

The service inspected all lighthouses in the Netherlands last year. The construction of the lighthouses in Westkapelle were subsequently assessed as safe. Although at 't Lage Licht it has been found that the floors contain cracks in some places. "Further research must assess the quality (ie load-bearing capacity) of the floors", Rijkswaterstaat said. That study will be conducted in the first half of 2022. It is not yet clear how long that will take.
