Underwater war exhibition

On November 1st 1944 a huge deployment of allied forces liberated Westkapelle. Large numbers of tanks and landing crafts were put to shore. Unfortunately part of the deployed forces did not make it. There was a fierce opposition from the coast, with heavy shooting and fighting. Tanks, ships and other materials brought death as well as liberation. Part of the used material still lies near the shore on the bottom of the sea. Objects and items that could be traced to individual soldiers were retrieved and will be exhibited in the future. The large materials remained on the sea floor to form a new habitat for sea life. This new life can be admired in exhibitions as well as on snorkelling tours.
